The honest truth is that most consumers do not have a dependable plumber on hand. This is because most consumers do not call a plumber until there is a water leak or water damage has been done to the house. Then, people are in a panic because they have got to find a plumber as fast as possible, and usually, contact the most recognizable name they find first in an internet search. We want to offer some tips for you to consider when hiring a plumber.

Tips for Finding a Reliable Plumber

Tip 1– Research, research, research. Find out where this plumber is located. Do they have a physical location that you could go to if need be? Can you find a few contact numbers, and email, and possibly a fax number? If you needed to get in touch with this company afterward, could you do it successfully?
Tip 2– License. In the state of Georgia, plumbers are required to have a license to do any work. Ask to see this license, do not just take the plumber’s “word for it”. If they can’t provide a physical copy of the license, ask for the license number. You should be able to find the license under the Secretary of State’s website, or by calling using the number provided.

Tip 3– Check for insurance. Ask up front about insurance that the company has. If a contractor is hurt while at your house if the contractor does not have insurance, you are most certainly liable for the claims. Ask who the plumbing contractor is insured with, and make sure that the dates they will be working in your house are covered by the insurance. You would hate to find out that the insurance only covers 2 of the 3 days they were in your house and on the third day they got injured.

Tip 4– Contracts. Read your contracts or estimates carefully. Take the time to make sure that there is detailed information about the services that will be provided, the equipment used, the time frame of the project, and the payment schedule. If you are unsure of something written in the contract, ask them about it. If they don’t give you a good answer, call the Secretary of State for Georgia to find out the answer. Do not sign something that you do not understand fully.

Tip 5– Check References. Ask the company if they will provide you references, or if they have previous customers that are willing to talk about their experience with the plumbing company. This is a great time to use social media to do your research. Check their Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ pages to see how active they are, and if they are talking to customers. Ask questions on those pages, and see if they are answered. Check out Yelp, Kudzu, and the BBB to see what others are saying about the company. Do not be afraid to reach out and ask as many questions as you feel you need to be comfortable.

The biggest keyword we can give you is research. Do not wait until you have a plumbing disaster strike your house, and then have to find someone quickly. Be prepared and find a reliable plumber before then. Take the time to ask questions and get information on the different plumbers in Georgia.
